Create coins and add the song title and student name on the coin, do this as home work for accuracy.

Next, create coins and create a playlist for the classroom party.

MATH

If the Cokes are in the icebox, then what is an icebox?

How much are cokes this week, download the grocery store app, or give the class the sales paper to create problems that can be solved using the apps or paper. Be sure to check for discounts and remember that since this is a school event, it can be tax free, because schools have a tax id number that can be used to discount purchases for the classroom.

Do they have popcorn for sale or do we need to buy chips because they are cheaper? What is the cheapest drink or snack that will give us an excellent party for $20.00 How many of each item do we have to buy?

STEAM

Make a soda machine

ART

Create a popcorn banner to cover the table in art, using warm colors to paint the popcorn and using cool colors to paint the background. To create a table cloth roll the paper out and have students draw and paint their popcorn on the same roll of paper. This can be a Pre-K - 1st grade assignment.

How can we redesign the classroom for comfortable seating and a dance floor, remember some people may want to have hors d'oeuvres as well.

READING

Introduce nonfiction text features including the table of contents, index, glossary, headings, bold words, sidebars, pictures, and their captions, and labeled diagrams. Students need the opportunity to learn how to identify nonfiction text features and how to use them. Use the elements from the album or 45 to make this more interactive.

Take time to teach or demonstrate a record on the record player. Maybe show a 45 and an album.

Use the nonfiction text features to create an album cover.

I bless the day I found you I want to stay around you And so I beg you, let it be me Don't take this heaven from one If you must cling to someone Now and forever, let it be me Each time we meet love I find complete love Without your sweet love what would life be So never leave me lonely Tell me you love me only And that you'll always let it be me Each time we meet love I find complete love Without your sweet love what would life be So never leave me lonely Tell me you love me only And that you'll always, let, it, be, me

Reading - Analyze the Poem

I know why the caged bird sings Maya Angelou

The free bird leaps

on the back of the wind

and floats downstream

till the current ends

and dips his wings

in the orange sun rays

and dares to claim the sky.

But a bird that stalks

down his narrow cage

can seldom see through

his bars of rage

his wings are clipped and

his feet are tied

so he opens his throat to sing.

The caged bird sings

with fearful trill

of the things unknown

but longed for still

and his tune is heard

on the distant hill for the caged bird

sings of freedom

The free bird thinks of another breeze

and the trade winds soft through the sighing trees

and the fat worms waiting on a dawn-bright lawn

and he names the sky his own.

But a caged bird stands on the grave of dreams

his shadow shouts on a nightmare scream

his wings are clipped and his feet are tied

so he opens his throat to sing

The caged bird sings

with a fearful trill

of things unknown

but longed for still

and his tune is heard

on the distant hill

for the caged bird

sings of freedom.

Monday in B-Flat Poem by Amiri Baraka

Monday in B-Flat I can pray all day & God wont come. But if I call 911 The Devil Be here in a minute!

No, I don't feel death coming. I feel death going: having thrown up his hands, for the moment. I feel like I know him better than I did. Those arms held me, for a while, and, when we meet again, there will be that secret knowledge between us.

The Bean Eaters

They eat beans mostly, this old yellow pair. Dinner is a casual affair. Plain chipware on a plain and creaking wood, Tin flatware. Two who are Mostly Good. Two who have lived their day, But keep on putting on their clothes And putting things away. And remembering ... Remembering, with twinklings and twinges, As they lean over the beans in their rented back room that is full of beads and receipts and dolls and cloths, tobacco crumbs, vases and fringes.

so he said: you ain’t got no talent if you didn’t have a face you wouldn’t be nobody

and she said: god created heaven and earth

and all that’s Black within them

so he said: you ain’t really no hot shit they tell me plenty sisters take care better business than you

and she said: on the third day he made chitterlings

and all good things to eat

and said: “that’s good”

so he said: if the white folks hadn’t been under yo skirt and been giving you the big play you’d a had to come on uptown like everybody else

and she replied: then he took a big Black greasy rib from adam and said we will call this woeman and her name will be sapphire and she will divide into four parts that simone may sing a song

and he said: you pretty full of yourself ain’t chu

so she replied: show me someone not full of herself and i’ll show you a hungry person

On the first day of April in 1960, in the final weeks of her twenties, Hansberry divided a page of her daybook into two columns and filled them out in the like-and-dislike list tradition of Roland Barthes and Susan Sontag:

I LIKE

Mahalia Jackson’s music My husband — most of the time dressed up being admired for my looks Dorothy Secules eyes Dorothy Secules Shakespeare Having an appetite Slacks My homosexuality Being alone Eartha Kitt’s looks Eartha Kitt That first drink of Scotch To feel like working The little boy in “400 Blows” The way I look Certain flowers The way Dorothy Talks Older Women Miranda D’Corona’s accent Charming women And/or intelligent women

I HATE
